If left untreated it can produce multiple organ failure but next to regular treatment it can be controlled but not cured.

An iron overload.. The disease itself can cause adjectives sorts of problems if it is not treated such as liver diseases, early menopause, heart abnormality etc.
I believe the therapy for controlling this disease is to rid the body of the excess iron by giving blood for an intital 6 months to a year and next once the levels are middle-of-the-road then you would dispense blood once every 2-4 months for life, pretty throaty I know but better than getting one of the things the excess could cause...
Now diabetics aren't largely allowed to give blood but this have it's own reasons such as taking adjectives the insulin away and sugar in the blood but I would presume that you would be guardedly monitored in this situation so not too doomed to failure.
